Asheville: The Other Music City

We always get the question; where is your favorite place you’ve traveled recently? Currently, one of our favorite places we’ve traveled this year has to be Asheville, North Carolina. If Portland and Nashville would have made a kid, it might be Asheville. With beautiful mountain scenery, Asheville has it all: one of the first and best beer cultures, a booming food haven and a thriving music scene. Pretty much all the boxes we like to check in any city!

This Podcast Episode:

Join us for this special travel episode of Millennial Money, as we explore the other music city. Showing us around their city of Asheville are three locals and new friends of the podcast.

We have Graham Sharpe of the band Steep Canyon Rangers, who are currently opening for Steve Martin and Martin Short’s national tour talks about the eclectic music scene and what draws people to Asheville these days.

Caroline Roy, the owner of Asheville hot spot Biscuit Head, chats about why Asheville is “the” town to visit and start a business in.

To wrap up our tour of Asheville, Chef Mike Moore of Aux Bar gives us some insight into the booming food scene and some tips on where to find some underground music.

My co-host for the podcast is my husband, Jeff Game, a travel, and music journalist that’s always on the hunt for a good story to tell.

U By Uniworld Has Changed Cruising Forever With Ellen Bettridge

Let’s face it, the cruise industry does even get what a traveler in their 40s wants to do, see, and explore and they certainly do not know what an experience is these days. Let alone an experienced millennial traveler in their 20s and 30s just like you. So when you’re thinking about where to spend your travel dollars…if you’re anything like me, you’re looking for an experience.

When we think of cruising usually old school visions of the 70s TV show the Love Boat might pop into our brains, with endless buffets of gluttony, shore excursions to remote location in a beat-up tour bus with no air conditioning and of course the horror stories we see online of ships making people sick, flooding or just horrible customer service. These are the cruise ships of your parents and grandparents.

On This Podcast Episode:

Prompted by a question from Rebekah, who was searching for a unique travel experience, I uncovered U by Uniworld.

U by Uniworld have begun a cruising revolution with their newly launched European river cruises for the next generations and beyond, designed for those with a passion for exploring and taste for authentic adventures. Chic comfortable ships that double as social clubs, silent disco clubs, mixology and fine cooking classes, rooftop yoga, locally-sourced designed menus and experiences in some of Europe’s top cities like Paris, Budapest, and Amsterdam that will blow your mind. That’s right, this is not your parents or grandparents cruise ships.

I had the pleasure to chat up Ellen Bettridge, President, and CEO about one of the hottest new adventures that has the travel world all abuzz these days, U by Uniworld European River Cruises.

Unplugging In the Texas Hill Country River Region & Ask Shannah

Unplugging is not something we do well in our warp-speed these days – but we should. In fact, there are scientific studies that suggest that being able to truly relax and rest has been shown to boost productivityincrease creativity, and reduce the long-term risks of potentially fatal ailments. So we decided to do just that – unplug a bit, reconnect, increase our creativity, and visit a place that many haven’t even heard of – Texas Hill River Region.

On This Podcast Episode:

Sometimes we all need to escape the hustle and bustle of our daily lives to find a place where the pace is not so frantic, the locals are a lot friendlier, and the beauty of nature envelopes your soul with a warm Earth Day-esque hug.

My co-host, Jeff Game, discuss how unplugging vacations can be one of the best investments you can make (not only as a couple but also in helping us get back in touch with what matters most in life).

We recently decided to leave our city slicker lives behind for a few days, unplug and explore the quintessential Americana Texas Hill Country River Region, located in Uvalde County. And, it kind of ruled!

As we hopped in our rental car for the hour and a half drive from San Antonio to Texas Hill Country River Region, cranked up our Willie Nelson playlist and could already feel the stress fall away along the roadside.

The Valentine’s Day Escape Plan

We all know that Valentine’s Day is a made up, Hallmark holiday that forces us to spend more money than we intended or should spend. It’s also a holiday that says this one day a year you have to be in love, and of course, spend more money. So not true!

On This Podcast Episode:

Valentine’s Day is the third largest consumer holiday of the year, as we spend over $19 Billion in the name of Cupid. The average person will spend $143.56 for their Valentine.

Instead of spending money on stuff you or your Valentine may or may not use (probably not), spend your hard-earned cash on an escape plan and getaway for love. This is a great plan whether you’re in love or not. Travel this Valentine’s Day!

My co-host for this podcast episode is my husband, Jeff Game, a travel, and music journalist that’s always on the hunt for a good story to tell.

As we talked about in a recent travel episode, Austin is one of the hottest cities to travel in 2018 and might just be getting a lot more awesome-er (it’s a word) when the “Urban Oasis” that is the brand spanking new Fairmont Austin opens later this year.

Located smack dab in the middle of downtown, this brand-new gem of a hotel is a great addition to the expanding Austin skyline.
